Recently I've started teaching both beginner adult classes and beginner kids classes. It's amazing to see the difference between the groups and how this influences my teaching style. Kids are like clay: they can be moulded and taught new skills without too many existing bad habits. But it can be slow going. This is why it is so important to encourage basic life skills like coordination and balance from such a young age. But the most important part is making it FUN!
Adults can be the complete opposite. They have those pre-existing basic skills which make it easier for them to pick up movements. But the challenges come from their history of movement. All of a sudden you find yourself considering injury and exercise history. Even a small detail like the perfect Irish dance turn out becomes a new challenge.
As CID grows, the diversity in skill levels will grow and make every class an exciting experience for everyone.
